Welcome
Dr Sam Robinson is an Adelaide based ear, nose and throat surgeon and Australia's most experienced reconstructive upper airway specialist for snoring and sleep apnoea (sleep apnea).
This website provides information about the ear nose and throat surgery which Dr Sam Robinson provides, including surgery to reconstruct the airways of sleep apnoea sufferers. It also provides general information about snoring and sleep apnoea.
Apnoea (or apnea) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that affects up to a quarter of the population. It collapses the airways during sleep, sometimes halting breathing. Most sufferers snore loudly, and frequently make choking, snorting and gasping sounds as their airway reopens.
The effects include fragmented sleep, daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, increased heart rate, chronic elevation in daytime blood pressure, increased risk of stroke, higher rate of death from heart disease, mood changes, increased risk of vehicle accident and disturbed sleep for bed partners.
Up to 90 percent of sufferers remain undiagnosed.
Dr Sam Robinson has reconstructed the airways of more than 500 sleep apnoea sufferers over the past 10 years -the surgery can be an effective treatment when non-invasive therapies fail. The procedures involve surgery to tissue in the nose, soft palate and tongue.
Although Dr Sam Robinson's main subspecialty interest is in snoring and sleep apnoea, he treats a wide range of conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, head and neck. These include children's ENT problems (e.g. grommet insertion, and removal of tonsils and/or adenoids), nasal & endoscopic sinus surgery, ear surgery and removal of neck lumps.
